HABITUAL TRAFFIC OFFENDER

Posted by Joyce Heritage | Jun 06, 2024 | 0 Comments

First, a reminder, to make sure that the Department of Licensing (DOL) has your correct mailing address on file.  You can verify or change your address on the DOL website.

In a prior blog, the result of having too many traffic infractions resulted in a short 60 day license suspension and probationary license period of 12 months.

However, in addition to the short term suspensions, for a person who is convicted of 3 or more serious traffic offenses as listed in RCW 46.65.020 OR who is found to have committed 20 or more traffic offenses during a five (5) year period, you will be deemed a Habitual Traffic Offender (HTO).

The result is a lengthy license suspension, which can be one year, multiple years, or even a lifetime ban.  If you receive a letter from DOL notifying you that you have been deemed a HTO, you should contact an attorney immediately  You are entitled to a hearing, which you should request, as well.
